Mining in the West Midlands, beyond the black stuff
Aside from coal, the West Midlands has witnessed significant limestone and ironstone mining.
The prosperity of the Black Country region, in particular, came from mining ironstone, limestone and fireclay alongside coal.
As a result of intense mining, subsidence has been widely reported throughout the West Midlands.
